Rainbow Eucalyptus
1 min read

I have recently received several Facebook posts regarding the sale of Rainbow Eucalyptus trees that are being imported into Australia from the Philippines, via Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. They are so interesting to look at and everything I read is very positive regarding how well they will grow in the gardens in the sub tropical and tropical areas of Australia. They are also being listed as being a good source of pollen for our bees with their massive and quite lengthy display of white flowers. However, I am hesitant to buy one and introduce a non-native species to my garden. I would like to know if anyone has any information on them, i.e., the pros and cons of planting these trees without creating any detrimental long-term consequences for our honey and native bee populations or existing flora, especially as there is such an emphasis on only planting native species in the gardens now? *Tom
