Be Safe In the Apiary

The day was hot and very humid, and the bee site was sheltered by windbreaks which prevented any breeze. My new worker is Stephanie, an 18-year-old girl, who is very enthusiastic to become a beekeeper. She shows great aptitude to be a queen breeder.

While catching queens from mini nucs on stands, we were working back-to-back, when she said, “John I am not feeling well”.  As I turned around, she fell to the ground and, fortunately, I was able to catch her, preventing her from hitting her head on the stand. I then lowered her to the ground. 

She lay prone halfway under the hive stand. I did not know what to do. She
