Another Species of Varroa Mite Threatens European Honeybees

The March Issue of AHBIC News announced that ‘As at 1 March 2018 we commenced the second year of our three (3) year proof of freedom requirement as part of the Varroa jacobsoni eradication program in Townsville.’

Following on from this good news, it is worth re-visiting just why the beekeeping industry has been so keen to ensure that Varroa jacobsoni did not succeed in getting a foothold in Australia.
